Congress bags four municipal councils in NCP bastion Pune

Mumbai, Jan 8 (UNI) Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committe (MPCC) President Prabha Rau today said Congress had bagged four municipal councils in Pune district and NCP had got only Baramati council.

Talking to reporters, Ms Rau said the results available of 28 municipal councils indicate that Congress has maintained its stronghold even in municipal councils.

She said while Congress had got a majority in Saswad, Shirur, Alandi and Indapur, NCP had got the majority in Baramati, which is the hometown of Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar.

Meanwhile, official sources said Congress had so far got 174 seats in municipal council elections, followed by NCP 161. BJP and Shiv Sena could not make any major impact in the elections with just 38 and 33 seats, while independents got 203 seats.
