Report on police lapses in Nithari in 15 days
New Delhi, Jan 8: Minister for Women and Child Development Renuka Choudhary today said the committee to probe into the lapses in the Nithari serial killings will come up with the results in the next 15 days.
''The panel will look into reasons as to why were the FIRs not registered by the police. How can the police say a child has eloped without any initial investigation? The Nithari children have paid a terrible price for their living,'' Ms Choudhary said on the sidelines of a conference on 'Women' at the ongoing Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2007 here.
The committee will also look into the level of cooperation provided by the local administration to the families of the missing children.
The ministry has also asked the chief secretaries of all states to collect the number of missing children in each state and the status of the cases.
On being asked about the manner in which being the case is being pursued, the minister said, ''Now that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is looking into the matter, we can expect some justice to the families of the bereaved.'' Once the CBI comes out with its interrogation reports, the figures of the committee can be clubbed and the modus operandi thereafter can be worked out.
Ms Girija Vyas, Chairperson, National Commission for Women, reiterated that the killings would have been prevented if the local administration and the police had acted on time.
Both the accused in the case, Moninder Singh Pandher and his accomplice Satish have undergone brain mapping and narco-analysis tests to ascertain the details of killings and any possible organ-trade link.
More than 30 children and women are suspected to be sexually abused and killed by the duo.
While addressing the session, the Minister highlighted various issues of declining sex ratio, marriage frauds by NRIs and illiteracy among women in the country.
The Ministry has approached the United States and United Kingdom to frame suitable laws and regulations within the existing treaties to prevent the Indian brides from being cheated by the Non-Resident Indians.
''We are touch with the concerned departments of the countries so that the norms and legislations also apply to the overseas Indians, who commit such crimes,'' the Minister said.
Besides, a Child Commission on the lines of the National Women Commission will also be set up. The Commission will address the issues concerning children in India.
