Coldwave persists despite increase in day and night temperatures
Shimla, Jan 8 (UNI) The coldwave conditions sweeping Himachal Pradesh continued unabated despite an increase in day and night temperatures in the state during the last 24 hours, the met office said today.
Shimla recorded a night temperature of 2.8 degree and a day temperature of 14 degrees Celsius after recording sub zero night temperatures in the last three days.
The met office said Sundernagar in Mandi district recorded a marginal increase in night temperature, which stood at 1.5 degrees, while the minimum temperature at Bhuntar in Kullu district stayed at minus 2.2 degrees Celsius.
The minimum temperature at Kalpa in Kinnaur district of the state also rose to minus 4.4 degrees as against minus 6.6 recorded yesterday, it said.
The met office said the state capital was experiencing the most severe coldwave conditions after 2002 when night temperatures had dipped to minus 5.5 degrees.
Severe coldwave conditions were also continuing in all the mid and lower hills of the state with Una town recording sub zero temperatures for the fourth day today, it said.
The tourist places of Manali, Kullu, Solan, Dalhousies, Dharamsala, Kasauli, Chail, Kufri and Narkanda have seen a drop of tourists in the last few days due to intense coldwave conditions.
The met office predicted dry weather in the state during the next 24 hours.
