5-member gang decamp with booty from jewellery shop in city

Chennai, Jan 8 (UNI) A five member gang including two women entered into a jewellery shop at Adayar in the city, posing as customers and decamped with 22 sovereigns of gold ornaments from the shop, after diverting the shop owner, as well as the employees.

Police said the gang which spoke in Hindi, saw various designs of the rings on display and selected two and asked the owner of the shop to pack the same yesterday. The gang told him that that they were going to the temple and would collect the rings after their return.

The owner, however, found that 22 sovereigns of gold ornaments were missing.

Based on a complaint from him, police registered a case and an investigation was underway.

In a similar way, Rs five lakh worth diamond studded jewellary was stolen by a gang after diverting the attention of the owner of the jewellery shop at Purasaiwalkam in the city on Saturday night.

Police suspected the involvement of the same gang in both the offences.
