2 militants among 3 killed and two arrested in J and K

Srinagar, Jan 8 (UNI) A 9th class student and two militants were killed and two others arrested in Jammu and Kashmir overnight.

A Border Security Force (BSF) spokesman said troops of 42 battalion conducted a search operation in Pulwama after receiving information about the presence of some militants there.

However, when the troops were busy in searching the area, militants opened fire, which was then returned by the troops and in the fierce clash two militants were killed.

He said two AK rifles, six magzines, 142 rounds of ammunition, one grenade and two pouch were recovered from the slain militants.

An official spokesman said militants shot dead Sajjad Ahmad Mir, a 9th class student, at village Indergam in Baramulla district of north Kashmir last night.

Official sources said security forces arrested a JeM militant Mohammad Maqbool Bhat along with a live hand grenade at New Colony, Pulwama, in south Kashmir.

Another militant of HM Reyaz Ahmad Bhat was arrested with a hand grenade at the main market of Pulwama, they added.

Security forces recovered one wireless set and 40 rounds of ammunition from an open area of Anchar lake in the down town city last night. However, no one was arrested.

Panic gripped the uptown and traffic on the Srinagar-Airport route was suspended after rumours spread that a car with a bomb planted inside it was parked on Indira Gandhi road at Hyderpora.

Official sources said traffic on the Srinagar-Airport route was suspended after a car was seen parked in the no-parking zone at Hyderpora today.

The bomb disposal squad was immediately summoned after the entire area was sealed.

Later, no bomb was found in the car.

Militants had triggered a number of car bombs in the same area in the past. A BSF bus was also targetted in the same area last year causing injuries to 25 personnel.
