Vaiko condemns TN Police for functioning as DMK agent
Chennai, Jan 7 (UNI) Marumalarchi DMK General Secretary Vaiko today strongly condemned the Tamil Nadu police for fuctioning as "an agent" of the ruling DMK.
In a statement here, he cited example of how the police arrested his party's Vembakottai East Union's Unit N P Muniasamy in a "fabricated case" at the instigation of the DMK, in order to prevent him from participating in the party's General Council to be held here on January 10.
Mr Vaiko alleged that the police was also attempting to take action falsely against a farmer of Vijayakarisalkulam village for taking away sand from his own land a few days ago, but they could not succeed, as the local farmers agitated and confirmed that the farmer had taken sand only from his land.
He alleged that despite the fact that Mr Muniasamy had not committed any offence or indulged in a crime, the police arrested him and remanded him to judicial custody, which was highly condemnable.
He said since the day of inception of the minority DMK Government in Tamil Nadu, the police department had been acting as the DMK's hired gang, and especially the Chennai city police had engaged in violence during the recent local bodies polls, besides booking false cases against the MDMK men.
He alleged that knowing pretty well about these things, President Dr A P J Abul Kalam advised the police to function impartially and with honesty.
Mr Vaiko warned that if the Tamil Nadu Police continue to act as the hired gang and agents of the DMK, besides losing its credibility among the society, it would also endanger the State as a whole.
