Union Home Ministry delegation arrives in Dibruarh

Guwahati, Jan 7 (UNI) A high-level Home Ministry delegation, headed by Minister of State Sriprakash Jaiswal, arrived in Dibrugarh this morning to assess the latest law and order situation following renewed violence by the ULFA in the state in which 48 people were killed.

The Home Ministry delegation landed at Dibrugarh and immediately headed to Tinsukia by a helicopter. At Tinsukia, the delegation would be meeting the high-ranking officials of the state government to review the latest law and order situation.

The delegation will meet the members of the affected families in the district and visit the other affected districts of Dibrugarh.

The banned ULFA militant triggered a series of blasts and shootings since Friday night killing at least 48 people in Upper Asom's Tinsukia, Dibrugarh and Dhemaji districts. The highest number of victims, at least 34, from Tinsukia were reportedy killed followed by eight from Dibrugarh and six from Dhemaji districts.

Most of those killed were Hindi- speaking migrant labourers.

Meanwhile, an indefinite curfew was in force since last evening in Tinsukia Sub-division.

A red alert has also been sounded throughout the state following the ULFA's massacre. Search operations were on to apprehend the militants responsible for the killings.

Meanwhile, suspected Karvi Longpi N C Hills Liberation Fronts (KLNLF) militants have also killed eight people in the Karbi Anglong district yesterday, in three landmines explosions. These land mines exploded when two buses, carrying polling personnel from three polling stations, were returning from Nomati MNC, killing eight of them and injuring nine others.
