Polish archbishop resigns after spying allegations
WARSAW, Jan 7 (Reuters) The newly-appointed archbishop of Warsaw today resigned after admitting he had spied for Poland's communist-era secret services, the Vatican's mission in Poland said.
The mission said in a statement Pope Benedict had accepted Bishop Stanislaw Wielgus's resignation. Wielgus was appointed by the Pope on December 6 to succeed anti-communist Cardinal Jozef Glemp. According to the statement, Glemp will temporarily take back the position.
