Nearly 71 pc children get polio drops in Haryana

Chandigarh, Jan 7 (UNI) Approximately 71 per cent children up to five years of age were administered polio drops in Haryana on the first day of the National Itensified Pulse Polio Immunization round of 2006-07.

A spokesman of the Health Department said more than 39 lakh children were to be covered during this campaign. The left out children would be administered the vaccine on January 8 and 9 in a door to door campaign by the teams of the Health Department.

He said as many as 15,590 booths were set up in the state to administer polio drops to the children and approximately 62,000 health officials, volunteers, Anganwari workers were deputed for this purpose. About 3100 officials apart from Nodal Officers from the state headquarters and independent monitors of PGIMS, Rohtak supervised the Campaign in the State.

Before beginning the Pulse Polio Campaign, awareness campaign through print media, radio and TV was carried out to bring home to the people its importance, he added.
