Naidu says Indian politics set to witness turning point after polls

Tiruchirapalli, Jan 7 (UNI) Senior BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu today said Indian politics would witness a turning point after polls in the north Indian states.

Addressing the Tamil Nadu state and district-level office-bearers of the party here this evening, Mr Naidu said good days were ahead for the BJP while the Congress could face a major debacle in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Manipur, Punjab and Delhi.

He claimed that initial euphoria of the UPA Government was over.

Launching a blistering attack on the Congress-led UPA Government 'which neither had unity nor clarity among itself, Mr Venkaiah said it was run by five Prime Ministers.

While Mr Manmohan Singh was in the driver's seat, Ms Sonia Gandhi was holding the steering with the Communists controlling the brakes.

Mr Lalu Prasad was holding overall control while Mr Karunanidhi had the remote control for the vehicle. Ultimately the vehicle had no direction or destination.

The BJP had a three-pronged approach to expose the failures of Manmohan Singh Government and would go to the people for redressal, he added.

As per the National Executive Committee decision, the BJP will go in for mass awakening programme starting from January 16 up to end of May 2007.

Every district or the Mandal will go to the nook and corner of the villages. All district units of the BJP will hold massive rallies before February 16.

Signature campaign would be mobilised demanding immediate hanging of Mohammed Afzal who 'engineered' the attack on Parliament.

By March-April, BJP will launch filling up of jail campaign and every rank and file of the BJP was prepared to stay in jail for any number of weeks.

Mr Naidu said the focus of the campaign would be on four issues-- plight of the common man on price hike, concern over the farmers on not getting remunerative prices for their produce, weakened situation in internal security and soft corner towards ISI and other militant activities across the country.

Citing the growing number of terrorist strikes at various places in the country, including places of worship and the recent butchering of 49 innocent people in Asom by ULFA militants, Mr Naidu said the government was soft towards ISI and hard towards RSS.

He strongly condemned the DMK for allowing installation of Periyar EVR statue in the holy town of Srirangam.
