Mandal Congress president shot dead

Guwahati, Jan 7 (UNI) A Congress leader was shot dead by ULFA militants in Asom's Tinsukia district last night, police today said.

The incident occurred at about 0000 hours when ULFA militants opened fire on the Mandal president in Deurigaon under Paneri police station area of the district.

As many as 34 people, mostly Hindi speaking, were killed in the serial attacks by the ULFA militants in Tinsukia distrct on Friday night.

The toll in the attacks had gone upto 48 in nine incidents spread over three districts of the state, official sources said.
