LIC's sports festival to begin tomorrow

Bhopal, Jan 7 (UNI) The All India LIC Sports Festival will get underway at the Tantya Tope stadium here from tomorrow.

The five-day meet will see participation by 450 participants, including national and international level sportspersons, from seven zones -- Central, Eastern, Northern, North Central, Southern, South Central and Western.

For the first time, six events -- athletics, badminton, carrom, chess, table tennis and volleyball -- would be organised at one place and at the same time.

LIC's Gurmeet Kaur and Lekha Rai (athletics), M N Vikram (volleyball), Jason Xavier (badminton), S Apurva and V P Nirmala (Carrom) and Swati Ghate and Atanu Lahri (chess) would be the centre of attraction during the meet.

According to organisers, preparations for the event have been completed and LIC Chairman T S Vijayan will formally inaugurate the festival on January 10.
