India will be number one Nation of mobile users: Sadagopan
Tirupati, Jan 7 (UNI) Bangalore IIIT Director S Sadagopan today said India would occupy the first position in the world in terms of mobile customers within the next five to seven years.
Inaugurating a three-day international conference on 'Statistical Science, Operational Research (OR) and Information Technology (IT)' here, Prof Sadagopan said the IT sector in the country recorded tremendous growth with IT companies like Infosys, TCS and Wipro registering huge turnover during the last fiscal.
Andhra Pradesh Council of Higher Education Chairman K C Reddy, speaking on the occasion, said India was emerging as global economic power.
Andhra Pradesh Higher Education Principal Secretary Asutosh Mishra said engineering colleges must include IT in the curriculum as the nation was witnessing an IT boom.
Alagappa University Vice-Chancellor P Kanniappan said the conference would be useful for exchange of experience and ideas and help pave way for international collaborations in research and technology improvements.
