Hrithik, Kareena get best actor and actress awards

Mumbai, Jan 7 (UNI) Bollywood hearthrob Hrithik Roshan and actress Kareena Kapoor won the Best Actor and Best Actress awards respectively at the 13th Star Screen award ceremony.

Hrithik won the award for his performance in ''Krrish'' from among the series of movies nominated, including his dare-devil stunts in ''Dhoom 2''. Kareena was adjudged the Best Actress for her performance in Vishal Bharadwaj's ''Omkara'' at the ceremony held here last evening.

''Lage Raho Munnabhai'' won the Best Film award, while Rakesh Mehra, director of ''Rang de Basanti'', won the Best Director's trophy.

''Lage Raho Munnabhai'' and ''Rang de Basanti'', both of which had been last year's biggest hits, won six and eight trophies in different categories respectively.

''Lage Raho Munnabhai'' won awards for Best Editing, Best Story, Best Dialogue, Best Actor in Supporting Role (Arshad Warshi), besides Best critics award for Sanjay Dutt.

''Rang de Basanti'' won awards for Best Background Music--A R Rahman-- Best Sound, Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography and the Best Screenplay.

Promising Newcomer (Male) award went to Tamil actor Siddharth, Kiran Kher won the Best Actor Supporting Role (female) and Rakesh Mehra got the Best Director award for the movie.

Former actress Mala Sinha and Biswajeet were presented the Lifetime awards for their contributiuon to cinema. Ayesha Takia won critics Best Actress award for ''Door''.

Vishal Bharadwaj's ''Omkara'' won maximum awards in the music nominations. He himself received the Best Music award, while Gulzar received the Best Lyrics award for ''Bidi Jalai Le'' and Sunidhi Chauhan received the Best Playback (female) singer award for the same song. Shaan won the best Playback Singer (male) award for ''Chand Shifarish'' in ''Fanaa''.

''Krrish'' got the Best Action and Special Effects award while Shamak Davar received the Best Choreographer award for ''Dhoom 2''.

''Being Cyrus'' won the award for the Best Film in English.

Promising Female Newcomer award went to Kangana Ranaut who debuted in this year's releases ''Gangster'' and ''Woh Lamhe''. Saket Chaudhary won the Best Debutant Director award for ''Pyaar Ke Side Effects'' while the Ramnath Goenka award for ''Path-breaking Cinema'' went to ''Khosla Ka Ghosla''.

Shreyas Tarpade won the Best Actor in Comic Role award while Saif Ali Khan received the award for his performance as a villian in ''Omkara''.

The Star Jodi Number One award went to Shahrukh Khan and Rani Mukherjee. Rani took away the award on behalf of the pair while Hrithik's Best Actor trophy was taken by Rekha who plays his grandmother in the film.

The three-hour awards ceremony was marked by sizzling performanes by Bipasha Basu, Sahid Kapur, Isha Koppikar, Sunidhi Chauhan and Kareena Kapoor. The highlight of the evening was surprise appearance of Helen who danced with Kareena to the tunes of ''Ye mera dil'' from ''Don''.

Naveen Prabhakar and Raju Shrivastav of the Great Laughter Challenge hosted the show along with Isha Koppikar and Minisha Lamba.
