Govt employees to resort to dharna for action on gang

Puducherry, Jan 7 (UNI) The engineers and technical staff of all Government departments here would organise a sit-in in front of the Rajnivas here on January 10 to press the Government to initiate action against a gang which attacked the engineers of the Puducherry Housing Board three day ago.

A decision to this effect was adopted at a meeting of 12-associations here today, Tirupathi, Assistant Engineer, Puducherry Housing Board told newspersons here today.

Mr Tirpathi said PWD Engineers association, Junior Engineers association, Housing Board engineers association, Port Engineers association, Electricity department graduate engineers association, Surveyors Association and Revenue staffs association, were among others, who participated in the meeting today.

Housing Board engineers and other staffs, who went to Ariyanakuppam to evict a Government encroachment, were assaulted by a gang in the presence of police and legislator Anantharaman. The affected employees had lodged a complaint with Ravi Prakash, Secretary,Housing Board, which was forwarded to the Inspector General of police.

It was, however, alleged that the police had not initiated any action so far against the culprits.
