Hyderabad, Jan 7 (UNI) The Communist Party of India CPI (M) today said the party would oppose the constitution of second State Re-organisation Committee (SRC), for the formation of smaller states like Telangana in Andhra Pradesh, by the United Progressive Alliance(UPA) Government at the Centre.

Talking to newspersons here, CPI(M) Polit Bureau member Sitaram Yechuri said the formation of second SRC would create more demand for smaller states in the country. ''At present, they were demanding for the formation of 22 smaller states,'' he said.

Pointing out that the constitution of second SRC was not mentioned in the Common Minimum Programme (CMP), the CPI(M) leader said if implemented it would be against the spirit of the CMP.

Stating that the second SRC was not the solution to the formation of Telangana, Mr Yechuri said it would create new problems in the country.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy recently announced that the state Congress would urge UPA Chairperson and Congress President Sonia Gandhi to constitute second SRC for the formation of a seperate Telangana, at a brainstorming session of the party in the city.
