Call to build Rs 1000 cr education corpus at global Jain meet
Mumbai, Jan 7 (UNI) Industry captains attending the Jain Global Business summit meet here today called for building a Rs 1,000 crore corpus to fund primary and higher education.
Several Industrialists attending the summit stressed the need to improve the country's literacy rate to face challenges being thrown by the rapid developments at home and abroad.
Businessman Suresh Jain made a fervent appeal to Jain businessmen to contribute generously to the education corpus to raise Rs 1,000 crore. ''If each of us contributes Rs 50 lakh to Rs one crore, the target would be met to create a quality education infrastructure,'' he said.
Hemant Shah, secretary general of Jain International Trade Organissation (JITO) who is hosting the summit, said that the business leaders participating in the conference concurred with JITO's view that quality education was of paramount importance to meet challenges of knowledge era.
He said,''we will extend whole hearted support to any organisation planning to set up top class educational institutions and network with high net-worth Jain businessmen to encourage such causes,'' adding that this will help people from all sections, not merely Jains, to be able to get good education.
JITO has already helped establish 12 educational institutions in areas such as Bhyander, Thane, Kalyan and Borivali in Mumbai.
