BJP to undertake countrywide campaign from Jan 16: Naqvi

Kolhapur, Jan 7 (UNI) BJP national spokesperson Muktar Abbas Naqvi today said his party has decided to undertake a countrywide campaign from January 16 in order ''to make the people aware of the national security and the Union government's wrong policy towards terrorists and anti-national elements''.

Talking to reporters here, Mr Naqvi, MP, criticised the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government, alleging its policy was favouring terrorists, anti-nationals and anti-social elements while neglecting the interests of the common people.

He alleged that the law and order situation in the country had deteriorated with a spurt in terrorist activities. This is evident by the stance taken by some parties who want the death sentence awarded to Afzal Guru involved in the 2001 Parliament attack, to be relaxed.

He strongly criticised the Samajwadi Party (SP) led Uttar Pradesh government for its inept handling of the recent Noida incident, in which many innocent children were raped and murdered, saying the state government did nothing about it while it condemned the hanging of ousted Iraqi President Saddam Hussein.

Mr Naqvi said President's rule should be imposed in Uttar Pradesh considering the deteriorating law and order situation in the state.

''It is shameful that the UPA government did nothing about it, hence it is equally responsible for the crime,'' he added.

The senior BJP leader said strong initiative was needed to tackle the growing terrorist activities in Maharashtra, where the 7/11 serial blasts on Mumbai's suburban trains and blasts at Malegaon claimed many lives.

Replying to a question, he said the BJP had voiced its concerns over the recent statement by China's Ambassador to India that Arunachal Pradesh was a part of China.

The Union government should discuss the matter with China, Mr Naqvi added.
