Amarinder appeals govt employees to vote for Congress
Patiala, Jan 7 (UNI) In the run up to the assembly elections in Punjab, the ruling Congress today appealed to the government employees to vote for the Congress at a thanks giving rally organised by the Punjab Services Employees Federation.
Addressing a rally here at the Veer Haqikat Rai Park, Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh observed that employees were the backbone of the state administration and had played a major role in the dissemination of its polices and programmes.
He said the Congress government had conceded to almost all the major demands of the employees, including setting up of the 5th Pay Commission, grant of promotional scale of 4-9-14 and so on.
He mentioned that a package of Rs 738 crore for the employees was indicative of the state government's sympathetic approach and firm commitment for their welfare.
He admitted that the government would have accepted employee demands much earlier but it didn't have enough resources due to the mismanagement and financial mess created by the Akali-BJP.
''We gradually undertook certain corrective measures to restore financial discipline, to tide up the finance in balance by bringing a Financial Management Act and to curtail unwarranted borrowings and wasteful expenditure'' he observed.
Capt Singh appealed to the employees for their whole hearted support and cooperation and exhorted them to vote for the Congress party.
On the occasion, Capt Singh released a calendar and diary brought out by the Punjab Employees Services Federation.
