Vulture Sanctuary being developed in Mandsaur
Ujjain, MP, Jan 6 (UNI) A 'vulture sanctuary' is being developed at the 'Gandhisagar Sanctuary' adjoining the Chambal river in Mandsaur district of Madhya Pradesh.
The task of developing the vulture sanctuary in a bid to protect the rare and near extinct species was in progress.
A team, chaired by Ujjain-based Vikram University's Zoology HOD S P Kothari, had prepared a list of 516 animal species in the Ujjain division.
At present, the sanctuary had a population of 1,700 vultures.
Besides, star tortoises were also present.
A proposal was being mooted to increase the forest area of the Gandhisagar Sanctuary and develop into Chambal national park Meanwhile, a book has been published enlisting 900 species of herbs and other plants found in Malwa Pathar region of the state.
This include 19 rare species of medicinal plants.
The book has been published by a team headed by Vikarm University's Botany HOD Jaideep Govind.
