Union Home Ministry to solve Reang refugee issue in Tripura
Agartala, Jan 6 (UNI) Union Home Ministry joint secretary and in-charge of North Eastern region Navin Verma will visit Tripura on January 11 to discuss Mizoram's Reang refugees and NLFT (NB) surrendered militants issues.
Official sources here today said, Mr Verma will hold dscussions with the surrendered militants of National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT-NB) on the very day of his visit.
On January 12 Mr Verma will leave for Kanchanpur and visit the Reang refugees, the tribals who had taken shelter there after deserting home state Mizoram for the last six years following ethnic troubles.
According to a tri-partite accord that was signed with the Centre, state government and the surrendered NLFT (NB) militants on December 17, 2004, the Centre had announced special economic package of Rs 55 crore for the development of the tribals in the state.
Meanwhile, the state government had sent the Detailed Project Report to the Centre on Thursday.
Rehabilitation packages would also be provided to the surrendered insurgents along with training for employment in the military and para military given to the tribal youths, the project stated.
About 20,000 refugees were residing at Kanchanpur sub-division of the state and their expenditure is being borne by the Centre.
The state government had been demanding repatriation of the Reang tribals for long, sources said.
