Tsunami hit Andaman to get first Tteme park
Port Blair, Jan 6 (UNI) The Port Blair Municipal Council (PBMC) today announced that Andamans will soon have its first 'theme park' here.
The India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) and the PBMC have already inked a deal in this regard, PBMC chairperson Sher Singh told reporters here.
Mr Singh said Rs 180 crore project would start soon after developing Gandhi Park, a park in the city that offers boating facilities.
Blue print of the project had already been submitted and Rs 55 crore would be spent in the first phase, he said.
The project would cover the entire land available around the boating pond at the Gandhi Park, he added.
The territory, which was ravaged by tsunami two years ago, is now flooded with tourists but does not have any means of amusement for them.
''Such parks, like Essel World in Mumbai, will definitely attract more tourists to these islands,'' he added.
Recently, Andaman Tourism crossed the pre-tsunami tourist arrival mark. According to last available reports more than 1,20,000 tourists have already visited these islands in this tourist season, which will end in April.
