Tribal woman tramples to death by wild elephant

Jeypore,Jan 06 (UNI) A 60 year old woman in Kusambhata village under Borrigumma police was trampled to death yesterday by a herd of elephant.

According to reports, the herd comprising 10 elephants entered to hilly Kumabhata village,damaged the standing crops and destroyed the nearby forest.

While the heard trampled to death one woman,three others narrowly escaped from the jaws of death.Later, they fled from the village and informed the matter to the local police administration.

Jeypore Sub Divisinal Police Oficer D D Jena who along with policemen rushed to the spot to take the body said the wild elephants were sighted near by Dasmantpur jungle under koraput forest division a few days back.

The herd,he said managed to reach the village covering a distance of 50 kms.

Meanwhile,panicked villagers of Kusambhata,Ranigada,Signhbandh, Kumuli,Kamta, Muran Bisingpur apprehending further damage to their crops by the herd, have urged the district administration to chase away the herd to its original habitat.
