Shimla records coldest night of the season at minus 1.4

Shimla, Jan 6 (UNI) Intense cold wave conditions continue unabated in Himachal Pradesh with Shimla town recording the coldest night of the season at minus 1.4 degree Celsius, the met office said today.

Kalpa in Kinnuar district of the state shivered at minus 6.6 degree Celsius and official sources said temperatures in the higher altitudes of the state were being recorded between minus 15 and minus 25 degrees.

The met office said the state capital recorded the coldest night of the season at minus 1.4 degree, as against minus one degree Celsius recorded yesterday.

A report from Chamba district said Bhajraru, Salooni, Bharmaur and Bhairagarh in the district were recording night temperatures below freezing point following intense coldwave conditions in the region.

The met office said Sundernagar in Mandi district and Bhuntar in Kullu district recorded night temperatures of minus 1.9 and minus 1.3 degree Celsius respectively, while Una town shivered under minus 0.9 degrees.

People in mid and lower hills of the state also shivered under intense coldwave conditions with the region recording temperatures two to four degrees below normal, it said.

Despite another bright and sunny day today, drinking water supply to various localities of Shimla town remained disrupted due to freezing of water pipes, sources in the Shimla Municipal Corporation said.

The town recorded day temperature of 8.1 degree Celsius, a drop of one degree Celsius in the 9.2 degrees recorded yesterday, it said.

The met office has predicted mainly dry weather in the state during the next 24 hrs.
