PDP leader, constable among three killed, 26 injured in J

Srinagar, Jan 6 (UNI) A constable of Jammu and Kashmir police and a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader were among three persons killed and 26 others, including four security personnel, wounded in the Jammu and Kashmir overnight.

Sources said militants hurled a hand grenade towards a patrol party of 44 Rashitriya Rifles (RR) at Gole Chakri, Shopian, about 50 km from here in south Kashmir this afternoon. However, it missed the intended target and exploded on the roadside causing injuries to at least 26 persons, including four security personnel.

The injured were admitted to different hospitals, they said.

One of the injured Mohammad Yousuf later died on the way to hospital.

They said militants shot at and critically wounded a contractor Ghulam Hussain Bhat near block office at Dangiwacha this afternoon.

Mr Bhat, a PDP leader, died on way to hospital.

A constable of Jammu and Kashmir police, who was injured in a militant attack recently, died in the hospital this morning, an official spokesman said.

He said constable Chand Mohammad, who received serious bullet wounds during an attack on Station House Officer (SHO) of police station Pampore, about 12 km from here in south Kashmir on December 30, died in the hospital this morning.

SHO Manzoor Ahmad and another civilian Jan Mohammad died on the spot during the firing.

Pakistan based militant outfit Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT) has claimed responsibility for the attack.

A police spokesman said a police dog trainer constable Ajaz Ahmad was injured when an explosive device went off accidently here today.

He said the explosion was caused by Tri Nitro Toluene (TNT).

The injured constable has been admitted to hospital, he said.
