Lalu's son snaps up wicket of Sachin's cousin
Chennai, Jan 6 (UNI) After shining with the bat with a century two days ago, Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, son of Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, today took two wickets for Delhi, including that of Sachin Tendulkar's cousin Rohan Nitin, on the opening day of the under-17 semis against Mumbai in the Vijay Merchant Trophy tournament here.
On what was otherwise a dull days's play in which Mumbai crawled to 151 for four in 98 overs, off spinner Tejashwi enlivened the proceedings with a two wicket burst late on the first day of the three-day match.
Chandrasekhar Prabhakar Thathe (54, 207 balls, 3x4) and S Mehaboob Saaikh 37 (176 balls, 2x4) added a patient 91 for the first wicket in 351 balls to give Mumbai a good start.
However, Tejashwi struck in the fag end of the day, removing skipper Nikhil Patel (18) and Rohan Nitin Tendulkar (two), in quick succession. Both of them were caught at mid-on.
Maintaining a tight length, Tejashwi bowled in two spells of 12 and 15 overs, to finish the day with bowling analysis of 27-9-47-2.
It may be noted that Tejashwi's century (125) lifted Delhi to enter the semi-finals by virtue of their first innings lead against Bengal on January four.
In the other match, Punjab, put in tobat, scored 181 for five in 90 overs against Uttar Pradesh. Skipper Kunwar Raina battled throughout the day and remained unbeaten on 68 (267 balls, 7x4).
Rahul Khosla 43 (110 balls, 5x4), Perry Goel 30, Sharad Lumba 28 were other notable scorers. Left arm medium pacer Rizwan Ahmed claimed three wickets for Uttar Pradesh.
