Jaiswal to visit Asom to assess situation after ULFA attacks

New Delhi, Jan 6 (UNI) The Centre today reviewed the security situation in Asom with Minister of State for Home Sriprakash Jaiswal planning a visit to the state tomorrow for an on the spot assessment of the situation arising out of a fresh spate of violence by ULFA last night in which as many as 31 people were killed.

The Home Ministry has condemned the serial attacks by the banned outfit in Tinsukia and Dibrugarh districts of Upper Asom targeting migrant workers in the state.

Mr Jaiswal would visit the state tomorrow to review the situation following the attacks by ULFA in violation of the ceasefire agreement with the government.

The Home Ministry officials are in constant touch with the state government and has offered all possible help and support to curb the violence in the state, ministry sources said.

Thirty-one people were killed in attacks by the militant outfit in Dibrugarh and Tinsukia districts overnight.

The bout of violence came barely a day after Home Secretary V K Duggal reviewed the security situation in the northeastern state in view of the 33rd National Games in Guwahati from February 9.
