Govt seeks Army assistance in recent blasts: Lyndogh

Shillong, Jan 6 (UNI) Meghalaya Home Minister Robert Garnet Lyngdoh today said the government has sought Army's assistance in connection with the recent bomb blasts in the state.

Yesterday, state Chief Secretary S K Tewari had requested General Officer Commanding 101 Area Major General Vinod Nayanar to assist the police in handling the sophisticated bombs.

Altogether 11 people were injured in the triple blasts at Shillong and Lad Rymbai in Jaintia Hills district recently.

Police have arrested two Khasi Students' Union (KSU) activists on suspicion.

''The government is on top of the situation now and we have got vital clues in both the explosions,'' Mr Lyngdoh told UNI here.

'' We are trying hard to identify people responsible for such barbaric acts,'' he said.

Mr Lyngdoh also urged the people and politicians to ensure peace in the state.
