Cold wave continues in Delhi

New Delhi, Jan 6 (UNI) Delhiites are in for another weekend of severe chill with Cold Northerly winds today continuing to maintain the the severe cold wave conditions sweeping the city over the last week and the weatherman forecasting a further drop in mercury tomorrow.

Even though temperature in the Capital today rose slightly, from the season's lowest of 4.2 degrees Celsius yesterday, to 5.6 degrees Celsius, it still remained one degree below normal. However, with the cold Northerly winds continuing with the same intensity, the maximum temperature dropped to 18.7 degrees C, over three degrees below normal.

Meanwhile, visibility levels in the city continued to remain normal for the third consecutive day with just a slight mist witnessed this morning.

The cold wave in Delhi could intensify tomorrow with the weatherman forecasting a drop in night temperature during the next 24 hours.

Infact, they have forecast a minimum temperature of 4 degrees C tomorrow.

Next week too is not expected to bring much relief from the chill. For, even though weatherman have forecast a slight rise in night temperatures on Monday and Tuesday, mercury could witness a drop in the subsequent days with fresh snowfall over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttaranchal during the next 24 hours and rain or thundershowers over Punjab and north Haryana during the same period under the influence of a Western disturbance.

The next week could also witness a return to the foggy conditions in Delhi.

The Met office has forecast mainly a clear sky during the next 24 hours and a fall in night temperatures in the city.
