APDI, CAPSI set up Terrorist Detection, Information Cell
Chennai, Jan 6 (UNI) A Terrorist Detection and Information Cell and a Security and Detective Training Centre, set up jointly by the Association of Private Detectives of India (APDI) and the Central Association of Private Security Industry (CAPSI) was inaugurated here today.
Talking to reporters here, APDI Tamil Nadu Chapter Chairman V Kulothunga Cholanand and CAPSI Chairman K Chandrasekaran said the cell would be of much use to the Central Intelligence Agencies and the State Police in tackling terrorism.
'With terrorism posing a real time threat, the government is planning to rope in the services of around 50 lakh private security guards and detectives, more than double the number of police personnel in the country, for discreet information gathering to boost its intelligence network.' Observing that terrorist attacks and subversive activities could be prevented only by gathering information about their activities beforehand, they said it was only intelligence information that could be of help in this regard.
'In this context the services of private detectives and security agencies will be useful', they said and added that the Information Cell was set in this backdrop for the benefit of Central Intelligence Agencies and state police.
About the Detective Training Centre, Mr Kulothungan said there was need for perfection in every profession and that could be achieved only with proper training to the personnel.
They said the Private Security Agencies (Regulation) Act, 2005 had made it mandatory for the security agencies to employ only those who have passed the prescribed training.
