Amol Palekar to dedicate theatre festival to Ratan Thiyam

Imphal, Jan 6 (UNI) Famous theatre personality Amol Palekar will dedicate his third theatre festival in Pune this year to famous Manipuri theatre personality Ratan Thiyam, Manipur Information Centre officials said here today.

The festival, starting from January 11 to 14, would premiere Mr Thiyam's latest production 'Wahoudok' (Prologue) and his felicitation by filmmaker Sai Paranjapaye and actor Amruta Subhash.

The repertoire would also showcase two trilogies ' The Mahabharat Triology' and 'The Manipur Trilogy'.

Plays like 'Hey Nungshibi Prithibi (My Earth, My Love)', 'Chinglon Mapan Tampak Ama (Nine Hills One Valley)' and 'Wahoudok (Prologue)' would be staged on January 14, officials said.

Ratan Thiyam had produced more than 40 plays in the last three decades, had visited 20 countries with his troupe to attend International theatre festivals.

Media personalities like Om Puri, Nasseruddin Shah, Pankaj Kapur, Anupam Kher, Jaydev and Rohini Hattangadi would be attending the festival.

Ratan Thiyam here said, '' I don't make plays for entertainment but tell the mass regarding the beautiful concept of evolution of human being.'' UNI NS PP AKP1416
