AICC forms 13 member election committee for Punjab
Chandigarh, Jan 6 (UNI) Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) chief Shamsher Singh Dullo will head a 13-member state election committee of the party to select the candidates for the 117 assembly constituencies of the state which will go for the polls on February 13.
The committee include Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh and Deputy Chief Minister Rajinder Kaur Bhattal.
The PPCC had forwarded the names of the committee members to the All India Congress Committee (PPCC) last week. The AICC after going into details accorded its approval to the committee.
Other members of the committee include state assembly Speaker Dr Kewal Krishan, Cabinet ministers Lal Singh and Harnam Dass Johar, Tej Parkash Singh, Bal Mukand Sharma, Sukhdev Singh Shahbazpuri, Malkit Singh Dakha, General Secretary, PPCC, Mrs Gurkanwal Kaur, President Punjab Mahila Congress, Rajinder Rasrania, Chief Organiser Congress Seva Dal and Vijay Inder Singh, President, Punjab Youth Congress.
Disclosing this here today, PPCC spokesman Raj Pal Singh said the committee would meet on January eight at the Congress Bhawan here.
Mr Raj Pal Singh said the PPCC had so far received 912 applications for all the 117 assembly constituencies that the party was contesting. These applications are being scrutinised and will be put up before the election committee for consideration and thereafter a list of the prospective candidates would be forwarded to the AICC for a final decision, he added.
