Yediyurappa to visit backward taluks of K'taka
Bangalore, Jan 5: Declaring that the Karnataka Government will provide a special grant to ensure provision of basic amenities in the 39 most backward taluks, Deputy Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa today said he will soon visit some of these taluks to study the situation.
Speaking to newspersons here, he said the D M Nanjundappa Committee had reported that there were 39 most backward taluks in the State, which needed to be improved to remove regional disparity.
He, along with officials, would visit the most backward taluks like Pavagada and Jewargi in a couple of days and decide on steps to provide basic amenities in these taluks. The Government would ensure that all the most backward taluks were brought on par with other taluks within four or five years, he assured.
He declined to divulge details on the quantum of grant to be provided in the budget for these taluks. He hinted that he might visit Bangladesh to study the micro-banking scheme and Gujarat along with officials, before finalising the budgetary proposals.
