Nabbed persons were KSU activists, Meghalaya Police

Shillong, Jan 5 (UNI) Meghalaya police today confirmed that the arrested persons in connection with the bomb blast in the state were Khasi Students' Union (KSU) activists.

The two, identified as Biangbor Lyngdoh and Wanstep Dkhar, were arrested on January 3 night from their residence at Mawlai on suspicion of being actively involved in the explosion at a local garment shop in downtown Shillong, police said.

''They have told us that they are active KSU members,'' Shillong Superintendent of Police H Kharkrang told UNI here today, adding that the police were finding out their motives behind the blast.

Meanwhile, president of the influential KSU Samuel Jyrwa admitted that the two arrested youths are members of the student body.

However, Mr Jyrwa refused to comment stating that the ''KSU is watching the development and will comment in two or three days''.

On January 2 night, four persons were injured, one critically, when two unidentified youths hurled a crude bomb into a garment shop at Khyndai-Lad, the commercial hub centre.

On the other hand, state's Jaintia Hills district police claimed to have got some 'vital clues' in the recent twin bomb explosion at Lad Rymbai.

''We have got some vital clues in the bomb explosion,'' district Superintendent of Police H Nongpluh told this correspondent over the phone.

In Lad Rymbai, seven people were injured, one of them seriously, when miscreants lobbed a local-made bomb at a gambling den and on the NH 44.

However, sources from the police headquarters here suspect the involvement of local youth in the Lad Rymbai blast.
