Mumbai rout Rajasthan by innings and 31 runs; get bonus point
Mumbai, Jan 5 (UNI) Hosts Mumbai completed the formalities, polishing off the last three Rajasthan wickets in just 57 minutes to register an innings victory on the final day this morning at the Wankhede stadium here.
Rajasthan resuming on 259 for seven and still needing 64 runs more to make Mumbai bat again folded up for 297 thus giving Mumbai a victory by an innings and 31 runs. Mumbai pockted five points inlcuding the bonus points.
Mumbai took the new ball on resumption and Ajit Agarkar and Abhishek Nair troubled both the overnight batsmen Ajay Jadeja and Mohd Aslam.
Ajay Jadeja on whom a lot depended if Rajasthan was to make Mumbai bat again and deny them the bonus point was done in by a beautiful outswinger by Ajit Agrakar after Abhishek Nair got rid of Mohd Aslam for nine. Jadeja's 70 came off 116 balls and included 10 hits to the fence.
P Singh then used the long handle to cart Agarkar over the cover boundary, but he only threatened to deceive as he got out in a bizzare fashion slashing wildly in the same over and missing. Singh then decided to take a stroll outside the crease and keeper Samant sensing the careless attitude of the batsmen threw down the stumps to hand Mumbai the innings win.
Agarkar thus got his first stumped victim and that too with the keeper standing back and not upto the stumps.
Agarkar and Kulkarni did the maximum damage snapping up three wickets each while Abhisekh Nair and Ramesh Powar chipped in with two wickets apiece.
