Cold wave intensifies in Delhi, mercury drops
New Delhi, Jan 5: There was no let up from the severe cold wave in the Capital today with the mercury plummeting to the season's lowest of 4.2 degree Celsius.
Cold icy Northwesterly winds sent people of Delhi in a shiver this morning as the minimum temperature dropped from 6.3 degrees yesterday to 4.2 degrees today, which is three degrees below normal.
However, visibility levels in the city remained normal with just a slight fog being witnessed this morning. Weathermen said a visibility of 700 m, considered normal, was recorded during the morning hours.
The cold wave in Delhi could persist through the weekend with the weathermen forecasting just a slight rise in minimum temperature to 5 degree tomorrow.
Next week too is not expected to bring much relief from the chill, with the weathermen having forecast a drop in night temperatures from Sunday with the possibility of snowfall over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttaranchal and rainfall over Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and West Uttar Pradesh during the next 24 hours under the influence of a fresh Western disturbance.
The weather office have also forecast a return of the foggy conditions towards the beginning of the next week.
The met office have forecast a mainly clear sky during the next 24 hours with possibility of slight mist during the morning hours.
