BJP member Vijender Gupta walks out of Stg Comm. meeting
New Delhi, Jan 5 (UNI) Member of the MCD Standing Committee Vijender gupta of the BJP today staged a walkout from a meeting of the committee protesting against the alleged move by the Delhi Government to increase seats in the MCD House.
''Increase in the seats of Municipal councillors is a conspiracy hatched by the Delhi Government who are sensing their defeat in the coming election. It is a move to postpone the MCD elections,''Mr Gupta said.
Stating that increasing the number of seats in the House without deliberating on the issue was unjustified, Mr Gupta said.''In 1993, the DMC Act was amended and seats increased.
Increase in the seats only after 12 years without deliberating on the issue is unjustified. At present, there are two wings in the MCD namely deliberative and Executive. To double the Deliberative wing without touching Executive wing will create imbalance. Therefore, this increase is not rational.'' Talking to reporters later, Mr Gupta said that before increasing the seats of Municipal Councillors, the administrative structure, zonal set up and system to fulfill obligations and formulation of schemes should be decided.
''Without doing any exercise on this count, increase in seats of Councillors is irrational. In case, seats of Councillors are increased then expenditure of MCD will almost double whereas financial resources will remain as it is,''he said.
