Administrative Reform Commission visits N E States
Guwahati, Jan 5 (UNI) The six-member Administrative Reforms Commission, headed by Veerappa Moily met Asom Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and discussed with him important reforms issues here yesterday. The Commission is currently on a five-day visit to the North Eastern states to discuss some of important reform issues with the respective state governments.
A meeting was also held with the Chief Secretaries and other senior officials of Mizoram, Manipur, Tripura, Nagaland and Sikkim at Assam Administrative Staff College here on January three followed by a meeting with the retired civil servants in the evening.
During these meetings the issues related to governance were discussed in details with special emphasis on the problems of the North East Region.
Talking to newsmen here today, the Chairman of the Commission Mr Moily said development in Asom is on upswing.''North Eastern States are much above in getting the Central funds, Arunachal Pradesh is getting highest of 85 per cent of central fund,'' he said.
He further disclosed that the gap between the administration and the people would be reduced in forthcoming development projects.
Mr Moily has stressed the need of reviewing the monetary mechanism in the country.
The Commission will proceed to Shillong later in the evening and conduct similar meetings there.
Mr Moily said the Commission had decided to give its recommendations in phases. It had so far submitted three reports to the prime minister relating to 'right to Information-master key to good governance', 'Unlocking Human Capital-entitlements' and 'governance-a case study and Crisis Management-from Despair to Hope'.The commission is finalising its recommendations on Ethics in Governance, Public order and Conflict Resolution. These reports will be submitted shortly, he said.
