Thief escapes from police custody

Chennai, Jan 4 (UNI) A 26-year-old notorious thief escaped from police custody at suburban Kuntrathur Police Station here today.

Police said the accused Venkatesan of Tiruvannamalai, wanted in over 30 motor cycle theft cases, was arrested a couple of days back.

The accused escaped from the station lock-up early today.

A search was on to nab him, police added.

In another incident, an undertrial, Venkatesan, who managed to escape yesterday while being escorted by two policemen back to Central Prison Puzhal, was caught today from a hideout near Madhavaram here, police added.
