Severe cold persists in Delhi though fog dissipates

New Delhi, Jan 4 (UNI) The severe cold wave sweeping through Delhi over the past week persisted today even as the fog dissipated clearing up the sky.

Though the minimum temperature today slightly rose to 6.2 Degree Celsius from yesterday's 6 degree, the cold north-westerly winds, coupled with ground frost conditions prevailing over some parts of Northwest India maintained the severe chill in the air.

However, there was a considerable abatement in foggy conditions with only a slight mist being witnessed this morning as the sky filled with a bright sunlight.

Weathermen have forecast a slight decrease in cold wave conditions in Delhi in the next few days and expected isolated rainfall over Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and West Uttar Pradesh tomorrow and on January 6 under the influence of a fresh Western disturbance.

The foggy conditions may return in Northwest India from the evening of January 6. The met office has forecast a mainly clear sky in Delhi and a rise in minimum temperature to 7 Degree C for the next 24 hours.
