POSCO to take up socio economic survey for its mega steel plant
Jagatsinghpur (Orissa), Jan 04 (UNI) The topographic survey of the area proposed for the 12 MTPA Steel Plant by the South Korea Steel major POSCO has commenced with help of 232 local volunteers.
The survey, POSCO sources said is expected to be concluded by January end following which socio-economic survey would be carried out in the area with the help of a local NGO and volunteers.
Simultaneously, the company was also planning to take education and health related village-friendly programmes forward in active participation with locals.
POSCO-India, the Indian subsidiary of South Korea Steel major POSCO, which has signed MoU with the state government to set up the mega steel plant near Paradip with an investment of Rs.52,000 crores, the largest FDI in the country, also today launched the second batch ofvocational training for its 12 MTPA Steel Plant.
POSCO sources said about 23 trainees in the age group of 18-30 years will undergo six months training in house wiring and electrician jobs.
Along with theory and practical session, the trainees would undergo periodical tests to enhance their aptitude. The entire lodging and training cost would be borne by POSCO-India.
Prior to the second batch training already 34 trainees of the first batch were undergoing their six month training from December 7 last.
On completion of the training they would be equipped with necessary skills and knowledge for the construction, enhancing their employability.
Meanwhile, the ground preparation for the Training Center in Sandhakuda had started in full swing and the entire construction is expected to be over by 2007 November.
POSCO sources claimed that altogether 400 jobs will be generated during the construction works for which locals would be given preference.
POSCO India Chairman cum Managing Director Soung-Sik Cho said the locals would be a part of the project at all levels and hoped that that locals would contribute for the steel plant construction with their able hands.
