New GOC-in-C Eastern Command inspects Guard of Honour
Kolkata, Jan 04 (UNI) Lieutenant General K S Jamwal, who assumed the the command of the Eastern Command here on Monday, today reviewed a Guard of Honour from the Armed forces and laid wreths at the Vijay Smarak Memorial.
The New General Officer Commanding in Chief Lt Gen Jamwal was commissioned into the Artillary regiment in 1967 after being adjudged as the 'Best All Round Cadet' in the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun.
Later during his long illustrious career Lt. Gen Jamwal served with distinction in all operational theatres and had held varied command, instructional appointments at various stages. He was also awarded the Ati Visisth Sweva Medal(AVSM) for several honourable operations.
He also held a number of coveted appointments, including that of the Additional Director General Staff Duties at the Army Headquarters, and made significant contributions to the UN Peace Keeping Force in Angola as the Chief of Staff and Regional Commander and the Deputy Chief Military Observers among others.
A known gunner and a keen Aivator Lt Gen Jamwal was the GOC-in-C of Army Training Command before taking over as the Chief of the Eastern Command.
