Mumbai police launches 'Digital Pen' to minimise paper work
Mumbai, Jan 4 (UNI) The city police commissionerate became the first in the country to launch 'Digital Pen', a state-of-art pen, which would minimise paperwork while registering a First Information Report (FIR).
The 'Digital Pen' has been launched by Pune-based Information Technology company.
Speaking at the launch, Police Commissioner A N Roy said, ''Mumbai police is the first to launch the modern digital pen and paper. It will minimise paperwork of police force.'' The 'Digital Pen' is being launched as a pilot project in three police stations - Colaba, D N Marg and Nagpada-- situated in south and south central Mumbai. If successful, the 'Digital Pen' would be introduced in other police stations gradually, Mr Roy said.
Elaborating about the 'Digital Pen,' Mr Roy said the police has to write an FIR on a special paper using this pen. The pen is then to be connected to a computer and copies of the report are taken.
''This will reduce the strain on the police force and the additional force will be utilised in maintaining law and order situation in the city,'' Mr Roy added.
