Monserrate resignation is an eyewash: Parrikar

Panaji, Jan 4 (UNI) Leader of Opposition Manohar Parrikar today said the resignation of Town and Country Planning Minister Atanasio Monserrate from the Cabinet was an 'eye wash' and an aim to divert the attention of the people from the controversial Goa Regional Plan 2011.

Mr Parrikar, speaking to reporters, said Mr Monserrate had not resigned from the Congress party nor its membership. It was an internal matter of the party and had nothing to do with the governance of the state, he claimed.

Mr Parrikar said the BJP legislators and office-bearers today discussed the matter and were unanimous in their demand that the Goa Regional Plan 2011 should be scrapped in toto.

People should not get carried away by the Congress' high political drama. The Congress is taking people for a ride by giving false information, he alleged.

He said a draft of the plan should be placed before the people and the opinion of experts sought.
