Blast in Meghalaya; CM urges people not to panic
Shillong, Jan 4: Meghalaya Chief Minister J D Rymbai today urged the people not to panic in the wake of the low-intensity bomb blast in downtown Shillong in state's Jaintia hills district.
''The blast is a strategy of some anti-social elements to bring a sense of insecurity among the denizens of the state,'' Mr Rymbai said here.
Altogether, 11 people were injured, two critically, in the triple blast recently.
Mr Rymbai said he had instructed the state police to be alert to thwart such incidents in other parts of the state.
Meanwhile, former Lok Sabha Speaker and NCP leader Purno A Sangma condemned the triple blast.
''The state government should be firm and quick to deal with the situation,'' Mr Sangma said.
