Medical College doctors withdraw strike
Thiruvananthapuam, Jan 4 (UNI) The doctor's strike in five Medical College Hospitals in the state was called off today after the government assured the medicos that the Health Minister would hold discussions with them, after returning from Kolkata, where she was participating in the CPI(M) central committee meeting.
The strike had been withdrawn for two days after the government's assurance that the Health Minster would hold talks, striking doctors said.
The doctors went on a strike called by the Kerala Government Medical College Teachers' Association (KGMCTA) from yesterday, in protest against the arrest of one of their beens at Kottayam Medical College Hospital in connection with alleged negligence in providing treatment to a youth, resulting in his death.
Outpatient services in all the Medical College Hospitals was hit and only the students and housesurgeons attended to patients. The casualty and emergency services were exempted from the strike.
