MDMK has emerged stronger: Kannappan

Coimbatore, Jan 4 (UNI) The alleged attempt of DMK President and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi to break the Marumalarchi DMK (MDMK) had only strengthened the party, its Treasurer and Former Union Minister M Kannappan today claimed.

Speaking to UNI here this morning, Mr Kannappan described as 'miscalculation' Mr Karunanidhi's hope he could break the MDMK if he managed to pull Rebel Leaders L Ganesan and Gingee N Ramachandran from the party.

He claimed 1,330 of the 1,414 MDMK Council members had signed letters and affidavits expressing support to General Secretary Vaiko who also had the power to remove partymen from any post they occupied in the MDMK.

As the rebel leaders had not been removed from primary membership of the party, they could not join any other political outfit as they were also Members of Parliament.

Mr Kannappan also alleged another party MP, Mr Krishnan, was offered a huge sum of money to switch loyalties but had refused to accept it.
