HC rejects bail plea of court official in Uphaar case

New Delhi, Jan 4 (UNI) The Delhi High Court today rejected the petition of a dismissed Record Keeper of the District Court challenging the cancellation of his bail from January 8 by a Trial Court in the Uphaar tragedy case.

Justice A K Sikri dismissed the application of Dinesh Chandra Sharma, the record keeper, who was dismissed by the authorities for his alleged involvement in destruction of records pertaining to the Uphaar tragedy which was in his custody at Patiala House District Courts.

Additional Sessions Judge V K Maheshwari in his report directed the accused to surrender before the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate(ACMM) on January 8.

While cancellling his bail and asking him to surrender, Mr Maheshwari said the accused had misused the liberty of bail by hampering the investigation and tampering with the evidence. He was released on bail on December 4, 2006.

The CBI, the probe agency, had also analysed the telephone records and found that Dinesh had contacted highly-placed persons and representatives of many other accused.

The investigating agency had also collected evidence that some of the accused and their representatives had helped him during the proceedings of the case, the order noted.

Dinesh was dismissed from service by the Delhi High Court for allegedly destroying many vital documents from the court records.

The High Court had directed the police to file a criminal case against the accused.
