Govt mulls another power equipment manufacturing unit
New Delhi, Jan 4 (UNI) Union Power Minister Sushilkumar Shinde today said the government is planning to set up a new power equipment manufacturer.
The company will assist in meeting the growing demand for the equipments in the country.
''While China is generating 3 lakh MW with seven manufacturing companies, we are fighting with one manufacturing company (BHEL) of 5,000 MW capacity,'' Mr Shinde told reporters here.
Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL), country's largest power equipment supplier with a market share of over 70 per cent, has been facing criticism from the power ministry for being responsible for missing the Tenth Plan capacity-addition target.
The company is in the process of scaling up its production capacity to 15,000 MW per year in the Eleventh Plan.
