Five killed, seven injured in accidents in Mandi

Mandi, Jan 4 (UNI) At least five people were killed and seven injured in five different road accidents in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh during the last 24 hrs, police sources said today.

Two people were killed when their tractor overturned at Katru village in Sundernagar sub-division of the district this evening.

The sources said people killed in the accident were yet to be identified, adding that its cause could not be known immediately.

In the second accident in the district, two people identified as Sohan Singh, 65, and Jagan Nath, 19, fell into a gorge in Kamlah panchayat while collecting firewood.

The sources said both fell into the gorge, while Jagan was trying to pull up Sohan who was hanging from a creeper after slipping from the steep hillside.

In the third incident, one person was killed and a woman injured after the tractor they were traveling in, over turned at Kothi village in Balh Valley, the sources said.

The sources said one person, identified as Duni Chand, was killed on the spot, while a woman, identified as Mathura Devi, who was injured in the accident has been admitted to a government hospital here.

Four people were injured, in the fourth accident after their jeep rolled into a gorge at Bandunala near Chail Chowk, the sources said, adding that the injured have been admitted to a hospital.

In yet another accident, one elderly person, identified as Kundan, 75, was seriously injured after a Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) bus hit him last night.

He has been admitted to the Regional Hospital here where doctors described his condition as critical.

The sources said cases have been registered and investigations were on.
